I don't think I want grandchildren anymore
I am a thinker by nature, I think about things, people, etc. I worry about people, I watch people, I think about who they are, what their life is like.
The weather lately has concerned me. When the country starts to get hundreds of tornadoes in one day, something isn't right. I watched entire communities being wiped out, leveled to the ground. What will these people do? How do you rebuild an entire town? Some businesses were barely hanging on and this is an excuse for a clean break, which means more loss of jobs, not that we can take much more. It's pretty bad when the NE starts to get them, a people who have always been relatively free of these types of storms, and who were too fascinated to even hide.
I don't see any other countries lining up to help or even sending help for that matter. A dog can crap in the middle of a sidewalk in another country and we send clean up people, people to study it, and money to figure out how to not make it happen again and to compensate those who might have had to walk across the street to avoid it. That's our current administration, give it all way, break the country and rebuild a country dependent on the government for it's every need. Take from those who work their asses off and try and give it to those who sit home on the couch, drink beer, and bitch about the economy.
I watch a lot of news channels and recently watched a special on why this is happening. With the global warming the ice caps are melting, releasing hydrogen into the atmosphere which is 10x as dangerous as CO2. With the melting, more moisture is in the atmosphere and being held down to the gasses. This causes warming, which causes hot summers with severe storms and freezing severe winters. We have been shielded from the news of what's going on in other countries, it's not just us.
I didn't see a thing about the mudslides and flooding in Bangladesh. Nothing about the thousands of acres of flooding in Australia made more dangerous by crocodiles, spiders, and snakes. Nothing about the drought in Russia so severe it killed hundreds and wiped out the wheat crops, which made our prices go up as they are a major provider. Weather folks didn't even see that one coming. Cutting the trees causing serious flooding, Haiti with flooding due to lack of trees. We weren't told, probably because it doesn't involve oil or anything we can use. If anything would have been said it would have been some muddy child on the streetcorner asking for help, for that our government can justify sending a gazillion dollars.
See the jellyfish report in Florida? Saw a few months ago the giant jellyfish have taken over Japan and have spread here. Can't get rid of them, try to catch them and they release eggs. They destroy wherever they live and kill the fish, make the water pretty much all dead. Yes, they are here. Hundreds of stings in Florida over the holiday weekend, bet nobody even knew they were a danger. Let's not tell anybody that.
There are 15 major coastal cities across the world, many of them here, and by the end of the century 12 will be under water. The water level is expected to rise by 3 feet, that's a lot. An island in New England just had the last house go under. Smith Island is next. Might not matter to us, but it does to the people who live on the islands. It's coming and it's not going to be easy or something everybody can just get over. Floods, tornadoes, fires, famine, crime...no I just don't believe I want any grandchildren to grow up in this. Nobody can get a job anymore, my college son has tried to work in even fast food the past 4 years without so much as a callback. Jobs are gone, being outsourced for the tax breaks. Why haven't our leaders grown some balls and taxed the hell out of products brought back into the country or the companies doing business out of the country? We the people could boycott these companies but no, that takes effort. We are a society of people who sit on the couch and complain but do nothing.
People are a huge part of this problem, or might I saw the indifference of people. Drive anywhere today and you see people going 10-20 miles over the speed limit, talking on the phone all the while, pulling out in front of you and not even noticing, rushing through the store. What we need is for all of the power in the entire world to go off at once and make people just stop for a bit, stop and think instead of communicating using some machine. What's happened to us? Most of us grew up when there were good jobs, hope for the future, hope for a family. Now all we see is about loss of jobs, homes foreclosing, loss of vehicles, children being abused and worse. Who ARE we anymore? What are we going to do about our futures?
